Council Member Bonner is a graduate of Mary Montgomery High School and the University of South Alabama.  She and Justus are proud to be raising Reese and Luke as a part of the Semmes community.  Council Member Bonner has been a part of the Semmes community since she moved here with her family when she was ten years old. Council Member Bonner serves as President of the Delta Gamma Mobile Area Alumnae Association, an affiliate member of the Mobile Area Association of Realtors, and an affiliate member of the Homebuilders Association of Metro Mobile. Currently, she is employed as a Senior Loan Officer with SWBC Mortgage.  She has been in the mortgage business for seven years.

As a member of the Semmes City Council, Council Member serves as chair of the Annexation Committee.  The primary role of the annexation committee is to develop a strategic plan for annexation in the Semmes community. The committee has also developed an annexation petition for citizens to complete in order to be annexed into the City of Semmes.  These petitions are currently available at City Hall and several local businesses within the Semmes community.  In order to be eligible for annexation, a property must be contiguous to the current City limits.  The City is currently accepting applications for annexation for all properties and will hold those until the petitioned areas are contiguous and eligible for annexation at which time the property owner will be notified of eligibility.  As the City grows and expands its boundaries, there are many things that must be considered by the Council and the Annexation Committee prior to the annexation of any property.  In a joint effort with the Public Works Committee (chaired by Council Member Baker), the Public Safety Committee (chaired by Council Member Calhoun), and the Finance Committee (chaired by Mayor Hale), the Annexation Committee carefully considers the impact to the City and its citizens before sending a parcel to the Council for approval.  Answers to many of the most frequently asked questions as well as a copy of the annexation petition can be found on the City web site at www.cityofsemmes.org.

Council Member Bonner is also a member of the Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Committee. As a member of this committee, Council Member Bonner is working with the chairman, Council Member Philip Dodd, and other community members to develop plans for future city parks and activities. As a member of the committee, Council Member Bonner helped design the float for the 2011 Semmes Christmas Parade (sponsored by the Friends of Semmes).  She is also working with the committee to plan a Spring Farmer’s Market for local farmers to sell fresh produce and other homemade goods.  The Market is expected to begin in the spring and run for a four week period on Saturday mornings. 

The Semmes City Council is required by Alabama Code to elect one of its own to the Planning Commission.  Council Member Bonner was honored by the other members of the Semmes City Council by being selected to serve in this role.  The future development of Semmes is critical to the City’s success and the work completed by the Commission is likewise critical to the growth of Semmes.  As a member of the Commission, Council Member Bonner serves as one of nine voting members. The Commission is responsible for developing subdivision regulations, a comprehensive plan for the City, and Zoning ordinances to be adopted by the City Council.  The hard work of the entire Commission and the sub-committee on Subdivision Regulations will soon payoff as the City of Semmes will soon have its own Subdivision Regulations.
